About the Little Monsters

The "Little Monsters Studio" is a project funded by the European Solidarity Corps aimed at establishing a multicultural playroom.

This project aims to create a space that fosters understanding and respect among different ethnic, racial, cultural, and linguistic groups. Thanks to the uniquely designed playroom, HEROES – MONSTERS, this play area will facilitate a positive attitude towards cultural diversity at the individual or group level, countering negative perceptions of oneself and others.

According to project founder Skaistė Vievesė, this project is very important for contributing to the creation of a tolerant environment and increasing activities and employment opportunities for mothers with young children in Trakai, making it appealing to all ethnic groups and helping to shape a multicultural worldview.

There are several reasons why we want to implement this project:

  1. Lack of activities for mothers with young children: In a small town like Trakai, there are limited opportunities and spaces for mothers to spend time with their children during weekdays. This is a problem many families face, especially those who have moved from larger cities to smaller ones. By opening a space or playroom, we can create a safe and engaging environment where mothers can easily find activities for their children, thereby reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

  2. Integration of multicultural communities: Our project is important as it promotes multicultural diversity and community integration. By creating a space that appeals to all ethnic groups, we encourage dialogue and interaction among representatives of different cultures. This can help reduce ethnic divisions, promote tolerance, and foster a multicultural worldview for children and families.

  3. Community strengthening: By opening such a space, we contribute to strengthening the community. Mothers with young children can feel more meaningfully connected to the local community and make new friends. Furthermore, we will create opportunities to organize joint events and activities that bring together different ethnic minority communities.

All of this shows that our project is significant not only for individual family members but also for the local community, where nurturing ethnic and cultural diversity is an important goal.

This project is very important to us because we want to contribute to creating a tolerant environment. The project's idea arose from one of the project leaders, Skaistė Vievesė, who drew from her personal experience. Skaistė is the mother of two young boys and moved from a large city to a small multicultural town almost two years ago, encountering the problem that there are no activities or opportunities for mothers with young children in Trakai. Although she became an active member of the mothers' community, there are no suitable spaces in the small town for mothers to visit with their young children during weekdays. Seeing the problem up close, including her own experience, she came up with the idea of opening a space or playroom that would be appealing to all ethnic groups. Many events held in Trakai are organized for specific ethnic groups, such as Poles, Karaims, etc., but there are no joint events that would help shape a multicultural worldview.
